Most Harmful Things Depressed People Do To Themselves

No comments:

When a person is in depression, they cannot control what they think or do. Similar to a self-fulfilling insight, they end up thinking negative thoughts and doing things that usually add to the depression. That only makes them feel lower sending them into a descending spiral. Sadness and gloom become an endless state of mid and they keep clutching and clawing at everything for help, which may not possible all the time.

These are four things that usually depressed people do, that hurt than help:

1. Any Type of Substance abuse

Numbing senses with alcohol and amusing drugs may seem like a God sent for a depressed person. But as these substances cause addiction in nature, initially intake of little amount gives relief, then after some time, they require more drugs and even more frequently. And unknowingly they enter substance abuse zone.

Being in a continuous state of intoxication affects their personal as well as professional life. And no need to mention that it takes on their health very soon. They try to stop it when it is too late, which leads to frustration and agitation, giving them one more reason to worry about, along with the depression. And this results in seeking treatment with medications. But counselling is as necessary to save someone from substance abuse as medication.

2. Change in Eating Habits

Eating tasty and rich food makes us feel good because when we eat our favourite food our brain releases dopamine which is the feel-good drug. When it is about eating, it is the brain that decides what and how much to eat, and researches show that generally, people with depression eat more or very less.

Eating more and more favourite food can make you feel more depressed. When you eat a lot you enter a nasty phase of more eating, that makes you feel good shortly and then feeling more depressed again. This may also be called a kind of substance abuse and researches also prove that depressed people are prone to obesity.

3. Obsessive thoughts and Musing

Obsessive thoughts make someone worrying about most of the time negative outcomes of situations and events and nonstop think about it in the loop. They lose control easily over what they think and do it repetitively and frequently. Same thoughts with blame and anger about things happened in past is rumination.

Be brave and move on is easier to say than done. Brain imaging proves that obsessive thinking forces some thoughts into repetitive loops. A person with such a disorder should seek online therapy for depression counselling.

4. Social withdrawal and Isolation

Depression is a terrible experience for anyone, and cannot be simply summed up in definitions and explained to anyone. To make someone understand what exactly they are going through is hard and incapability to do that can also lead to wrong judgments. Because of this fear, lots of depressed people decide on to hold onto to them and even to a point of social isolation.

Social withdrawal and Isolation is the most harmful thing that someone can do to them. Withdrawal and isolation can make that situation worse by intensifying the brain’s ability to respond to stress. So it is necessary to understand that social interactions help to break this vicious cycle. Besides, spending time with close people should be the first step of defence to fight depression.

If you feel you have any symptoms of depression or feel depressed most of the time, do not keep it to yourself. Reach out to a Therapist or speak out to someone close to you. If you are scared to be judged talk to a therapist online for depression counselling.

It is hard to accept for a few couples that they know what it takes. One problem that makes marriage difficult to heal is the delay that most people make in coming for counselling. Most of the couple does it when severe damages have already been done to their relationship.

The individuals keep quite on their feelings usually for years not telling their spouse about them until the fateful day comes. It takes many major episodes between most of the couples to talk about their issues seriously and make the first appointment for marriage counselling.

In sort of condition in a marriage, it is obvious that it is not going to work through improving communication skills and by asking them to have more date nights. It needs to be worked on like last stage cancer to kill. Sometimes the situations are that one or both of the persons do not want to be nice to each other which can make it harder to handle for a Therapist. Only a skilled therapist can help manage the crisis and make sure that the couple does not make it a bigger mess.

So the first order of Counseling is to calm down the situation. No significant decisions are made, at least till the time they are calm and wise enough to make one. When working on calming the situation, individuals are evaluated from psychological and physical health to their values, beliefs, morals and family history.

Many therapists can easily understand in first few hours session that what it would take to save your marriage. Although marriage Counseling is not that easy. It takes determination, lots of hard work, and will power to take one for the team. Many therapists see it as a challenge and agree that very few of their clients believe in going for therapy for a successful outcome.
